It's been awhile

I know, you've all missed my rantings and may have wandered if I'm dead, or been captured by the government but the truth is that I've just been overworked. Working full time and going to uni on my days off are starting to take it's toll and I don't feel like doing anything else most of the time.

I've been meaning to post for a few weeks now, on various issues that have raised my ire, so here goes:-

* Telstra has decided to remove it's discount on line rentals to schools who use a different provider. Telstra states that if they contiune to provide the discounts it gives their competitors an unfair advantage and unevens the playing field.

Telstra is the only phone company currently allowed to own the infrastructure, so the playing field is already unbalanced in telstra's favour. Telstra's problem is that it doesn't want a level playing field (then again, what business does?).

Of course I'm just shitty that Telstra doesn't discount it's line rental for all telstra customers.

* The pope's remarks to Islam. What better why to foster peace and understanding between the two religions by quoting a 14th century Byzantine emperor that the teachings of Muhammad were evil and inhuman and the prophet wanted to convert people by the sword. Of course these remarks were made during the Crusades where the christians were laying siege to other faiths and putting non believers to the sword.

But the pope got the reaction he was looking for. The Musliums were up in arms over it, death threats were made, violent protests ensued and christians and churches were attacked in Islamic countries, thus showing to the world that the Musliums were indeed a violent religion and incapable of rational debate.

That's right people, I believe the pope's comments were deliberate. For one thing everyone knows that you do not say anything aganist the prophet. If you were unsure before then the reaction to those Danish cartoons last year should leave no doubts. Don't insult Muhammad or you'll piss off the Musliums. By stating that Islam is a violent religion, knowing that it's followers would react violently, then people, christian or otherwise would believe he was correct. Then no matter how much apologising he has to do later, people see him as another victim of political correctess.

Remember, this man had the best education in propaganda, the Hitler youth (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pope_Benedict_XVI) . Sure it was compuslory and sure he says that he didn't attend meetings, but he could be lieing about (not saying that he is, just a possability) Either way, he probability did pick up a trick or two.

*Another religion issue, this time it's orthodox jews in Sydney. It seems that Jews in the Eastern suburbs want automatic crossing lights installed on Old South Head road so they can get to Synagogues safely.

What's wrong with the current crossing lights? Well, they're push button lights and pushing a button is considered as work, which is fobidden on Sabbath. Many Jews, rather then risk the ire of god and "work" ran across the busy road to get to temple.

WTF! Walking to temple is not work. Preaching in Temple is not work. Eating on Sabbath is not work. But pushing one button, a button that will ensure that you can get to temple safely and not get hit by a car is work.

Yes I can see the scene played out in heaven:-

JEW: I died on my way to temple. Was hit by a car
GOD: DID YOU USE THE CROSSING?
JEW: I did as you commanded Lord and did not work as I didn't press the button
GOD: (Stooge slaps Jew) MORON!

*Lastly, an Australian Values test for people taking the citizenship test. I know many of you know my views, namely what the hell is an Australian Value? People who know me know that I don't like sport, of any kind, don't surf, hate the outdoors, not a christian, embrace multi-culturalism and hate using Australian slang, as it makes people who use it appear to be uncouth and unedcuated (and if any of my friends post in the comments a single Aussie or a Oy I will hunt them down.)

Of course I'm sure we've all seen the e-mail jokes/newspaper jokes about some of the questions. A few of my favourites are:-

How many slabs can you fit in the back of a holden ute and still leave room for your cattle dog
Who were Scott and Charlene
What's a yardie
There is only one excuse as to why you can not go on a date with a celebrity, what is it?
Who was Australia's greatest sportsman, Don Bradman or Pharlap. Discuss.

John Howard has stated that an english test is vital as people wanting to be citizens should have a command of the english language. I don't disagree with him, can't see much point of becoming a citizen of a country if you can't speak the language. However seeing as John Howard used the word "fair dinkum" it is obvious that a command of the english language is not needed to lead the country.
