Flip Flop Nelson

Just over a week ago, on the 28th of March the federal opposition leader, Dr Brendan Nelson criticised the major banks for lifting their interest rates above the official rate and stated that it was insensitive of RBA boss, Glenn Stevens, for suggesting that given the current environment that 9it was understandable for banks to do so.

"Anybody in Australia who wants to trivialise the pressure of interest rates on Australian families, needs a reality check." - Dr Nelson
What a difference a week can make. Well five days actually. And the audience can make a difference too. On the 2nd of April, while addressing a corporate luncheon of bankers in Sydney stated that

people should stop criticising banks and they should be encouraged to make profits.

Yeah that's right. He told him, according to the daily telegraph, that while it's tough for people to lose their homes, we should spare a thought on how tough it is for the people who evict them.

"Anyone who doesn't think it's equally a significant experience to those who are the lenders misunderstands the nature of what you do and how you do it," he told the Financial Services Institute of Australasia.

He went on to attack those who criticised banks: "It's easy for some people in public life to engage in cheap populism and criticise lenders."
Okay, so maybe it's not a complete reversal. After all, he hasn't changed his position on banks going above the official rate rise, has he?

"The strength of the financial services sector and our banking sector in particular is absolutely essential to our stability, notwithstanding the argy-bargy over what individual banks may do from time to time," he said.

Oops, it appears he has.

How long will the coalition put up with this crap? He can't make a decision on the AWAs:- they're dead, no wait they were before work choices so we'll fight for them, oops no, right the first time they're dead. Despite the majority of both parties wishes he wants to merge liberals and nations :-
BRENDAN Nelson has staked his leadership on a controversial Liberal Party reform as a new poll shows he may already be headed for political oblivion.

This is a man who has the lowest approval rating in the history of Australia, who won leadership of the Liberal party by a hair's length after the coalitions worst defeat in recent memory. And he takes what appears to be every opportunity to debase and side against this own treasury spokesperson, who also happens to be the person he beat for leadership. He appears to be determined to lose his leadership rather quickly.

I know the Liberals always do badly in opposition, and I know they suffered a blow, but this is just pathetic. I'm actually almost sorry for them.

From his cold dead hands

Charlton Heston has died at 84.

Those wishing to have gun control in the us can now pry his beloved rifle from his cold dead hands.
